Aesthetic or Cosmetic Acupuncture: What is it?

Human skin is the largest organ of our body, both in weight (represents 16% of our total weight), and in size, since it covers the entire surface of the body.  Its thickness depends on the volume of water the skin retains, while its main function is our separation and protection from the surrounding world. Although one of the main functions of the skin is to prevent harmful substances from entering the body (as well as water), most of them manage to penetrate the skin, but at a very slow, almost insignificant rate.

Traditional Chinese Medicine believes skin to be the diagnostic mirror of our health; therefore considers wrinkles or loss of brightness, as important diagnostic elements of the general state of health.

So the face is a reflection not only of the inner health, but also of the emotional well-being of the individual.

Aesthetic Acupuncture is a natural and painless method, not limited to cosmetic treatment; it acts mainly on the underlying causes of the skin lesions, balancing the homeostatic equilibrium of the body. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, beauty comes from internal homeostasis, which is simply reflected on the skin.

Aesthetic or Cosmetic Acupuncture: The Results offered by Acupuncture in the field of Aesthetics

This aesthetic treatment is an extension of traditional acupuncture. It naturally helps the skin to look healthier, smoother, and therefore younger. Unlike Botox procedures, Facial Acupuncture treats not only the signs of a tired skin, but also facilitates general skin health, activating the very processes that hinder aging.

Aesthetic or Cosmetic Acupuncture stimulates energy production at cellular level, promotes collagen synthesis, facial-muscles rejuvenation, activates blood and lymphatic circulation. Additionally, triggers tissue oxygenation, thereby eliminating wrinkles. Skin texture is being hydrated and the face glows from the inside out.

Aesthetic or Cosmetic Acupuncture: What does an Acupuncture session consist of?

Ultra-fine needles are inserted into the skin, at specific points. It’s a practically painless technique with no side effects. In rare cases small bruises may appear which disappear in a few days. Results are visible from the first session, but it takes at least 8-10 sessions to become visible and stable.

Facial rejuvenation effects from aesthetic acupuncture are cumulative and evident after a series of 8-10 treatments. Each person is a different case, but maintenance treatments are usually needed once a month combined with a healthy lifestyle.

Aesthetic or Cosmetic Acupuncture: Benefits

Aesthetic Acupuncture is becoming widespread, because in addition to delivering satisfactory aesthetic results through stimulation of collagen production, it is also a therapeutic technique that aims for the long term increase of psychosomatic well-being.

It also offers great effectiveness in cases of acne, (including rosacea), in reducing dark circles and edema (puffiness) around the eyes, color patches (blotches), and cellulite.

Additional techniques such as Moxa, Guasha and Dermaroller can also be used. The latter is used with a light, painless stimulation, especially for tightening tissues in areas with saggy skin, such as the neck and the chin (double chin). Ventuzotherapy (Cupping Therapy) and Ototherapy (Ear Acupuncture) can also be used in Aesthetic Acupuncture sessions, all of them for the benefit of the patient.
